Dreams

Dreams
By Jehangir Saleh

In the openness of my mind there exist many dreams
Their eternal drama is released out through me
Burning holes in my brain the illusions slip through
They will torment my mind until they reach you
In the waves of uncertainty a young child drowns
Her fragile body is never to be found
For she was conceived inside my dreams
Where terror exceeds the limit of sanity

So be forewarned before you befriend me
I carry the manifestation of insanity
Obscured visions I have in the night
Are released in my actions upon daylight
This is really not what is seems
I am the terror who occurs in my dreams

A Wednesday Afternoon Math Class OR The Marshmallow Poem

A Wednesday Afternoon Math Class OR The Marshmallow Poem

Thoughts, like dormant clouds, cluster around my head.
The air is being slowly pushed away, my ideas are drifting with it.
Unable to think my mind has melted away into a soft white pool,
this pool crystallizes and the mind connection stops.
A permanent sugar sensation circles the room in waves,
I am floating in the boredom sea.

A Woman Standing In The Rain

A Woman Standing In The Rain

I look outside my window
I see a woman standing in the rain
She just waits there
Singing to herself
Like she knows something I don’t
And I look closer
I catch her eyes
She has mine
A smile dawns on her face
I look away, frightened

Sometimes the best friends
Are the ones you see
For the smallest amount of time
But they will always be
The ones who will,
Mean the most

Backdrop Addresses Cowboy

Backdrop Addresses Cowboy

Starspangled cowboy
sauntering out of the almost-
silly West, on your face
a porcelain grin,
tugging a papier-mâché cactus
on wheels behind you with a string

you are innocent as a bathtub
full of bullets

Your righteous eyes, your laconic
trigger-fingers
people the streets with villains:
as you move, the air in front of you
blossoms with targets

and you leave behind you a heroic
trail of desolation:
beer bottles
slaughtered by the side
of the rode, bird-
skulls bleaching in the sun.

I ought to be watching
from behind a cliff or a cardboard storefront
when shooting stars, hand clasped
in admiration,

but I am elsewhere

Then what about me

what about the I
confronting you on the border
you are always trying to cross?

I am the horizon
you ride towards, the thing you can never lasso

I am also what surrounds you:
my brain
scattered with your
tincans, bones, empty shells
the litter of your invasions

I am the space that you desecrate
as I pass though.

The Million-Mile Road

The Million-Mile Road
By: Jehangir Saleh
Written: September 25, 1999

Soon to be soft, so tender, so sweet
Over the path I lure myself,
Only to cast away from love
This is on the million-mile road

Never understand what I really want,
Soft lips whisper ideas to me,
Whether they’re yours or the one’s in my head
They speak about the million-mile road

Mathematical problems I can never understand,
All the numbers relate to you,
Pages and pages of undone work,
Are completed on the million-mile road

Come closer as dawn peeks,
Life with you is a game of hide and seek,
Maiden visions from afar,
It all comes together on the million-mile road
